Sant Vicenç de Castellet, January 24, 2015. – This morning, the inauguration of the Tanatori Bages Sud took place in Sant Vicenç de Castellet, marking the launch of the first facility of its kind in this municipality. The event was presided over by Joan Torres, mayor of Sant Vicenç de Castellet; Joaquim Casajuana, Public Works Councilor; Josep Maria Fenés, president of Àltima; and Jaume Fontanet, manager of Funerària Fontanova, part of the Àltima group, which will manage the new facility. The funeral company has invested 1.1 million euros in the construction of the Tanatori Bages Sud.

According to Joan Torres, mayor of Sant Vicenç de Castellet, "this funeral home is a much-needed and highly requested service in our municipality. It will prevent residents from having to travel to Manresa for wakes." The new funeral facilities are located at Passeig de la Pau s/n, at the corner of Santiago Rusiñol Street, next to the Municipal Cemetery. For Jaume Fontanet, manager of Funerària Fontanova (Àltima), “the Tanatori Bages Sud has all the amenities to ensure a close and quality service for the families of Sant Vicenç de Castellet. Furthermore, due to its capacity and technical features, it is expected to serve other municipalities in the Bages Sud area such as Castellbell i el Vilar, Castellgalí, El Pont de Vilomara, Monistrol de Montserrat, Marganell, and possibly also Vacarisses and Rellinars.” The inauguration concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque at the entrance of the new building.

A Comfortable, Functional, and Sustainable Facility

The Tanatori Bages Sud features a modern and functional design with plenty of natural light, designed exclusively on a single floor with direct street-level access. With a constructed area of 550 square meters, the funeral home includes two 45-square-meter viewing rooms, each with two distinct areas: one for the family and a separate area for the deceased. Both rooms also have access to two private outdoor courtyards for exclusive use by families, enhancing natural light and ventilation.

Designed by architects Alexa and Adriana Plasencia of Plasencia Arquitectura, the facility includes offices for family support, from where all funeral process aspects will be managed; a cafeteria with vending machines; and a large rest area flanked by a large central interior courtyard, allowing natural light to enter the entire area. The funeral home also features a private area with facilities for staff, including a separate access for funeral vehicles and a mortuary room. The building includes an exterior courtyard at the entrance that could potentially be converted into a multifaith oratory or a third viewing room if needed in the future.

The funeral home also offers public parking spaces in front of the main facade. Additionally, the surrounding area has been urbanized, and improvements have been made to the street pavement.

For the construction of the Tanatori Bages Sud, Àltima considered energy efficiency and conservation through the use of natural light, materials that enhance thermal and acoustic insulation, and the planting of native species with low water needs.

Open House Events Over the Weekend

Following the inauguration, the new Tanatori Bages Sud will hold two open house events: this afternoon from 4 to 8 p.m. and tomorrow, Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., allowing all residents of Sant Vicenç to visit the new facility.
