Barcelona, February 9, 2018. – On Saturday, February 10, the “AVES Conference: 25 Years of Restoring Losses to Build Lives Without Pain” will take place at the CaixaForum Auditorium in Barcelona. This event, organized by the AVES Mutual Support Groups association with the support of Àltima, is being held to mark the 25th anniversary of AVES, a non-profit organization founded in 1993 to support people through grief and loss.

The conference will bring together a dozen experts from various disciplines –medicine, psychology, pedagogy, volunteering, etc.– who will share attitudes and support techniques in the grief and loss process through presentations, panel discussions, artistic activities, and free practical sessions aimed primarily at professionals in the social and healthcare sectors. According to Adela Torres, President of AVES, this gathering aims to share how “a process of loss leads us to a self-knowledge we would not have accessed if we had not gone through this vital experience of grief.” You can review the event details in the attached program.

For Josep Ventura, General Director of Funeral Services at Àltima, “our collaboration with AVES is essential for providing funeral services to families with all the guarantees of support and professional help during grief. The process of death often involves considerable emotional stress, and in this sense, it is crucial to have expert guidance to manage the loss.”

AVES Mutual Support Groups is based on the teachings of Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, a leading specialist in end-of-life care, palliative care, and grief, and creator of a loss support research model named after her, which addresses the four dimensions of the person: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

About AVES: It is a non-profit organization with 25 years of experience in mutual support groups for grief, loss, and illness. Founded in 1993 and declared a public utility, the association primarily conducts its work through Mutual Support Groups (GAMs). AVES regularly organizes workshops, meetings, courses, talks, and weekly gatherings among the groups that form the core of the association's work.
