Cervelló opens the municipality's first funeral home

Cervelló, February 2, 2018. Cervelló now has its own funeral home. The facility has been built by Àltima, the funeral services company that owns GIC de Nomber, the manager of the Cervelló Municipal Cemetery and the new funeral home. Before the new center, located at 1 Joan Torruella i Urpina Street—next to the Municipal Cemetery—becomes operational, an open house will be held so that all residents of Cervelló can familiarize themselves with the facility and its services. The event will take place next Sunday, February 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will be attended by the Mayor of Cervelló, José Ignacio Aparicio, the General Director of Funeral Services at Àltima, Josep Ventura, and the General Director of Cemeteries at Àltima, Joan Ventura.

According to José Ignacio Aparicio, Mayor of Cervelló, “this funeral home is a necessary service for our municipality, which will prevent residents who go through a bereavement process from having to travel to other towns for the wake.” The proximity of the new funeral facilities to the Municipal Cemetery will also allow families to conduct the wake and burial without needing to use a vehicle. Josep Ventura, General Director of Funeral Services at Àltima, stated, “The Cervelló Funeral Home is a facility tailored to all residents of Cervelló, offering all the services to ensure a local and high-quality service.” Àltima has invested €285,000 in the construction of the new Cervelló Funeral Home.

The Cervelló funeral home joins the other 10 similar facilities that Àltima manages in Baix Llobregat, where it has had a solid presence for years. In this region, the company also manages six public cemeteries through GIC de Nomber. Across Catalonia, the company operates a total of 30 funeral homes, seven crematoria, and 19 cemeteries, primarily in the provinces of Barcelona and Girona.

A Local, Functional, and Sustainable Facility

Designed by architect Xavier Alba (a + b, architects), the Cervelló Funeral Home features a wake room, personalized family support facilities, a multipurpose lobby that can host ceremonies, a landscaped outdoor area for exclusive use by clients, and direct access to the cemetery. In total, the facility covers 144 square meters built on a 550 square meter plot. The wake room includes its own amenities, as well as a refrigerator and coffee maker.

For the construction of the Cervelló Funeral Home, Àltima has considered environmentally friendly and energy-efficient criteria, such as using locally sourced materials (to reduce the carbon footprint) and opting for recycled or certified-origin elements. The project has also prioritized insulation, climate control, and lighting features that ensure maximum energy savings.
