Àltima applies immersive technology to personalize the final farewell at cremations
Terrassa (Barcelona), October 13, 2020 — Àltima has developed a pioneering new service in the funeral sector that uses the most innovative audiovisual technology to personalize the final farewell with music and imagery when opting for cremation. The company has already implemented this service at its funeral home in Terrassa and plans to extend it to other crematorium facilities.
The new audiovisual service from Àltima aims to accompany families during the final farewell at the crematorium by "providing a more welcoming and pleasant environment for those opting for cremation," explains Joan Ventura, General Director of Àltima Cemeteries. The projection takes place in the room where the family waits for the moment of the casket's introduction before the cremation. "This phase can be emotionally challenging for families, who in many cases do not wish to witness it. We believe that personalization alternatives like this can help them feel more supported and comforted until the end," adds Ventura.
Cremation is an increasing trend in our country, with rates exceeding 50% in cities like Terrassa and Barcelona, according to Àltima data from 2019. "Therefore, we believe it is crucial to adapt and innovate with new services to meet this demand, as we find that families appreciate tools that make them feel more involved in this final tribute." According to Joan Ventura, the new projection service launched in Terrassa has received very positive feedback, with 90% of users rating it a 10. "Primarily, families have highlighted that experiencing this moment with images and music helps them feel emotionally better, more supported, and at peace."
To develop this new service, Àltima has relied on technology known as immersive virtual reality, a system that recreates a 3D environment using projections of themes such as nature—with images of forests, rivers, and seas—the sky, or the universe, combined with music.
