Barcelona, October 4, 2012.

Thanatopedy’s Twitter (@tanatopedia) launches today the "Cemetery Tourism" contest, aimed at sharing photographs of cemeteries from around the world with its followers. The contest will run for three weeks, until October 25, and will award one winning image chosen by lottery. To participate, simply submit a photograph and tweet mentioning @tanatopedia and the hashtag #turismocementerios. The winner will receive a package of experiences (one night and breakfast in a hotel of their choice for two people).

The "Cemetery Tourism" contest aims to showcase cemeteries worldwide in a participatory, respectful, and non-frivolous manner, while also fostering interest in these spaces, which are often located in unique natural settings or contain significant artistic, cultural, and historical heritage.

Thanatopedy: Pioneering in the 2.0 Funeral World

With the goal of creating a reference point for learning and sharing information about funeral services and rituals, Serveis Funeraris Integrals (SFI) launched Thanatopedy (www.tanatopedia.net) nearly two years ago, the first collaborative virtual encyclopedia on the funeral world globally. A year ago, Thanatopedy began its 2.0 presence by joining social media through a Twitter account (@tanatopedia). Its profile daily provides followers with interesting facts about the funeral world, notable obituaries, articles, interesting cultural anecdotes, and quotes from prominent figures.

Thanatopedy aims to break the prejudices our society has about death and its surrounding aspects, making it something much more vital and relatable through knowledge. It offers information on different religious rituals, works of art, installations, or cultural customs introduced by users themselves.

Since its inception, Thanatopedy has been well-received and now boasts over 400 entries and 1,997 registered users, reaching a total of 234,796 visits.
