Girona, August 9, 2021 – Àltima’s first funeral facility in Girona city is about to open its doors. Located at 19-21 Can Pau Birol Street, in the Mas Xirgu industrial park, the new Àltima Gironès Funeral Home-Crematorium will begin operations tomorrow, August 10. It will provide a new funeral service option for the local community, expanding the company’s presence in Girona, where it already serves through its funeral homes in Figueres, Llançà, and Ripoll.

The new Àltima center in Girona features all services integrated into a two-story building with a total area of 1,246 square meters. It includes three viewing rooms equipped with all amenities (private bathroom, cloakroom, refreshment area for families), a multifaith chapel for religious or secular ceremonies with seating for 154 people, a common vending area or café space, and offices for family support and consultation. The facility also offers cremation services with a crematory furnace equipped with state-of-the-art filtration systems to ensure minimal emissions, addressing the growing demand for cremations. Additionally, it includes a landscaped outdoor parking area with space for 102 cars, motorcycles, and bicycles, as well as four electric vehicle charging points.

According to Josep Ventura, General Director of Àltima Funeral Services, “Families in Girona now have a new, solid, and high-quality option in the city for completing all funeral processes. From this funeral home-crematorium, we support all individuals who may need our services, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, whether they have funeral insurance or not, and regardless of their beliefs. Our goal is to provide them with a comprehensive, personalized service tailored to their needs, with a professional, caring, and transparent approach.” In this regard, Àltima will also offer the Assessora processing tool from Girona, developed specifically to allow families to view the chosen services and detailed costs of each element, as well as the total contracted amount. Furthermore, both in-person and through the website www.altima-sfi.com, anyone can request a no-obligation quote in advance. The company also offers remote processing options via telematics when necessary, as during the pandemic.

The Àltima Gironès Funeral Home-Crematorium will also provide 24-hour grief support, both in-person and by phone, through a free helpline for families.

Personalized Farewells with 3D Projections for Cremations

The new Girona funeral home-crematorium will feature a pioneering service in the funeral industry developed by Àltima, which uses audiovisual technology to personalize farewells with music and images for cremations. This system, based on immersive virtual reality, recreates a 3D environment with projections of themes such as nature, the sky, or the universe, combined with musical pieces. The service, already available at the Àltima-managed center in Terrassa, aims to support families during the final farewell at the crematorium, providing a more comforting environment during the phase of introducing the coffin. “This is a rather emotionally difficult moment for many people, who often do not wish to witness it,” notes Josep Ventura. With this personalization option that Àltima is launching in Girona, “we hope to help families feel more comforted until the end.”

Sustainability at All Levels

For the construction of the new funeral facility in Girona, Àltima has prioritized several aspects that promote energy efficiency and sustainability. These include using materials that reduce construction time, minimize waste and emissions, and provide excellent acoustic and thermal insulation. Natural light utilization has been a key consideration, along with the use of LED lights and an efficient climate control system, which adjusts automatically based on occupancy and needs. For IT and audiovisual equipment, energy-efficient Class A options have been chosen, and all vegetation used is native and requires minimal water, to reduce water consumption.

In line with this environmental commitment, Àltima will also have several high-range electric funeral vehicles in Girona, models Atys and Lumen. The company, a pioneer in Spain in adopting electric vehicles, aims for its entire fleet to be 100% electric by 2024.
